lo key’s Quick Fire Q’s w/ hOld tiGht

Sam is someone who was introduced to us via Nick from the eclectics and we’d describe him as one of those rare bargain finds you don’t get very often when digging for records.. lol.

A multi-genre DJ who has done the rounds here in Bournemouth, who we’re excited to work with on a new project called “Disco Juju” – here he’s provided us with a 45 min bashment mix, which is a first for lo key, but again in keeping with our whole ethos of anything goes*

Enjoy

  • Hi …, if you could introduce yourself…

Hello, my name’s Sam and I DJ under the moniker ‘hOld tiGht’…. And I’m a south coast selector. I’ve been djing for about 13 years after getting hooked into vinyl by a good friend. I play a selection of styles across afro, world, disco, dancehall, garage and house.

I got a thing for lively percussive rhythms, and bloody love a rewind in the dance!

  • You’re part of Disco Juju, what’s that all about?

Disco Juju… It’s a new musical venture that a few of us have put together after wanting to share our musical finds in a club environment. We all share a passion for great music, but also all have our own direction, style and angle of music we personally enjoy, which all weaves together very nicely. We’re currently running a night and have just started a mix series with Micky Browne kicking off the first mix. Big things to come.

  • About the mix…

Choosing the selections for this mix was harder than I thought. Although I’ve got a slew of tunes in my collection ranging from 80s digi, right up to contemporary electronic UK bashment. I decided to utilise the latter with mostly instrumentals (ending the mix with a few of my favourite 7”s that always tear down the dance!) This was due to the fact that mixing 7”s with vocals on is tricky to do cleanly! The energy that Jamaican deejays put out when they chat over riddims is intense pure fire gold running throughout the entire track nonstop from start to fade out… there’s nothing else quite like it….. I’ll save them tunes for a live set where they can get maximum rewinds :).
