I had the pleasure of inviting down to radio the man behind my favourite record store in Bournemouth. Chris from Rose Red Records came down to educate me on his passion for music and the rabbit holes he’s found himself in over the last 7 years that the store has been going.
Daring move to do considering that only 10 years ago it seemed that records, or “vinyls” as everyone seems to be calling them, were a thing of the past as DJ’s, bedroom and big stars alike, were already well on their way to the digital era of Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK3’s – I actually remember very clearly thinking that my budget at the time was more suited to the 400’s which were freshly released around that time.
Could we call Chris a genius then for foreseeing that records would have had the resurgence that we’ve been seeing over the last 3 or so years, creating a place where young selectors like myself can discover Disco that dominated the dance floors 30 years ago? Possibly. There’s no doubt that he’s very well respected within our community for pursuing what it is he wanted to do with his life, which has actually egged me on that little bit more to continue doing pieces like this.
We both hope you enjoy the 2 hour radio segment, and hopefully you can tell me about your favourite record you’ve purchased at Rose Red when you see me out and about.
