Met Gary in 2015 in The Brit on a night where I heard the Quentin Harris version of Leela James – My Joy being played out for the first time since I left South Africa in 2006.

I thought he was a bit old to be playing bangers like that, but then again I spent 9 years trying to find people who were into the same kind of House music that I was and beggars cant be choosers can they?! I am the cool one after all so forgive me for thinking this way 😉

That’s all tongue in cheek. I soon learnt that actually the Heads that were into the good stuff were really a whole generation older than me but it’s shown me that my foundations were solid. Finally a crew I could share my music passion with, and a crew that understood exactly what this is all about – not those Clubland compilations that people kept reffering to as House music when the conversation cropped up, in Bar Me of all places.

Gary handed us our second ever gig, after Garphie, and here’s someone that can actually play deeper than me – and of course, the man’s incredible – not that he needs any more smoke blowing anywhere…

So yeah, big shout to him for coming down and allowing me to go b2b with him towards the end and also for the lesson on Loose Ends, and the rest.

The more I continue this series, the more I learn and the more I’m reminded that there’s still a long way to go. I’d have it no other way though.
