lo key’s International Women’s Month 2018 – Part 1

STAR Bournemouth

We’ve got to know lo key after many nights out in Bournemouth where we’d head to where we knew the music would be banging. Since then we have got to know the collective and they played at our fundraiser event Rave for Refugees at the Old Fire Station in Bournemouth, hosted by our uni society: Student Action for Refugees Bournemouth (STAR).

STAR is a national charity with societies set up in universities across the UK aiming to welcome refugees to the country through campaigning, volunteering and fundraising. Since we set up the society in September 2016 we have continued to spread the message to welcome refugees and grown in membership whilst raising money for various local and national charities. We are currently involved with the #familiestogether campaign which is calling on change of the unfair laws keeping families apart when they gain asylum in the UK.

The underground dance music scene has always been inclusive and a place for people from all races, genders and backgrounds to lose themselves to the music and have a good time. The scene is seeing an increase in female DJ’s and we have tried to include music from all our favourite girl power artists in the show.
