What is lo key collective? The sequel..

It’s been 6 months since our introduction on this site and what a fucking 6 months it’s been!

The reaction you guys have given this project is incredibly humbling. We’ve thrown a couple of parties, had a bunch of great nights at Jim’s Eat’s n Beats, played at a couple small festivals, Birmingham and also drank a shit load of rider beers!

It’s not been all fun and games though, this shit is tiring. It’d be silly for me to pretend that we haven’t put a lot of work into everything you see on this site. The pay off is SO worth it though..

So how did it all start then?

Me and mike have been teetering around as yougoodthing for a couple of years now and last summer we spoke about how Bournemouth lacked a movement where artsy types could all work together consistently and have a platform for us all to showcase our work in a way that’s fresh and current… and fitting to our view of the wider scene!

Plus nobody around here is really playing the weird and obscure records that we own lol

The project started out in September 2016 as yougoodthing & friends where we were joined by Georgia, Craig, Matty and Jimbo and it’s quickly merged into what you see here and all the other pages on this site.

Ray was cool enough to allow us to take over his radio station every fortnight for 6 hours an evening and that’s allowed us to invite folk down to chat about their musical tastes and have the freedom to play whatever we like! Since then we’ve had a bunch of guests, built up three different radio series‘ and are now looking for even more of you to join us on this journey and eventually delve deeper into this rabbit hole.

I mentioned that it’s not all fun and games, and what I mean by that is in order to get people to believe in what you’re doing, you need to first believe in what they are doing… I fucking love people and always have – despite how shit we can all be. Luckily we all have roughly the same mindset and agreed that we shouldn’t just expect opportunities to crop up just cus we asked for them. Instead we’ve been showing our support by attending a shit load of parties here and all over the country, seshing way more than my corporate mind would like and accepting that sleep depravity is pretty much normality now – not to mention the amount of questionable decisions we’ve all made along the way… … lol.

I’m so grateful though, for me personally I’d always wanted the opportunity to be able to do something like this in the hopes of building a big friendship group/community/take over the world as I’ve already tried the whole sensible/conventional lifestyle that society says we need to abide by… too boring! Not to mention that we’ve also discovered so many like minded people who are on a very similar journey to us. So our goals of throwing those hella big parties become even more realistic every day.

What I’m really grateful for though, is the nice little social circle we’ve built up from this and at times I feel all emotional (lol) cus it’s all turning into a small family.

So I guess this post is kind of like a thank you for the support so far, though I feel I’m saying that a lot recently. We’ve only just started, but trust me when I say that we’re building something really special here in Bournemouth and we’d like nothing more than for all of you to be part of it in some way, shape or form.

So what do we do?

In this part of the post I’m actually a bit undecided on whether I should be listing out all the individual events and shindigs that we’re doing around the area, with a brief description to accompany it. But part of me is mega lazy – just check the bloody Gallery page ffs. Do you know how long it takes to sort through pictures, process them, upload them and then add them individually to wordpress without the ability to install the correct plugin? Web developers and photographers hmu 😉 – but realtalk before I digress any further, writing and explaining the idea behind everything we do kind of defeats the purposes of our name.

We love the fact that we’re not really in your face all the time begging you on fb tagging you and 76 others in a post that you probably dont give a shit about. I’m not slating those that do that, I just think there are way smarter, less intrusive ways of being noticed. Besides, I think we all find what we’re really looking for despite all the distractions we have these days with social media and the internet.

On that note I hope you continue enjoying the content you see against the lo key brand and hopefully see you at the next Future People night 🙂
